WHO WE ARE

A day at the beach, for everyone

Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs is a multi-award-winning charity providing specialist beach wheelchairs and equipment for people with additional needs and disabilities.

Since opening in 2020, our free and inclusive service has helped hundreds of visitors enjoy the beach safely, comfortably and with greater independence.

Our aim is simple: to make the beach accessible to everyone and help families create happy memories together. Donations are always greatly appreciated.

ROYAL RECOGNITION

Proud recipients of The King’s Award

In 2024, Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs received The King’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the outstanding dedication of our volunteers and the difference they make to people with additional needs and disabilities.

It is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and has the equivalent status of an MBE. The award celebrates the time, care and commitment of everyone who helps make the beach more accessible and inclusive.

Step 1

Call to book

Ring the freephone number to book a slot. If there is no answer, please leave a message.

Step 2

Tell us who's coming

Date and time, a contact name and number, and the name, age and needs of the person using the chair.

Step 3

Come to the Wheel Base

Bring ID, secure footwear and your four-point sling if using the hoist. Volunteers will help you.

We tailor each chair to the individual for a safe, comfortable and pleasurable trip onto the beach. Every chair is serviced regularly and sanitised after each use.

A chair for every age

From baby buggies for the youngest visitors through to all-terrain chairs that glide across soft sand and down to the water.

Supports and cushions

Lumbar and lateral supports, pommel and gel cushions, neck supports and transfer boards, so the chair fits you properly.

Always free to borrow

Every chair and every piece of equipment is loaned free of charge, funded entirely by donations and our supporters.

All-terrain

The Hippocampe

A sporty single-seat chair with large balloon wheels that glides over soft sand right down to the water.

Supported seating

Beach wheelchair

A stable, upright chair with a supportive seat and armrests — ideal for relaxing on the beach with the family.

For little ones

Beach buggy

A comfy pushchair on balloon wheels so the youngest visitors can join the trip across the sand too.

Plus a full range of equipment – a four-point Molift hoist, cushions, lumbar and lateral supports, pommel cushions and transfer boards. Please bring your own sling if you need the hoist.
